Membership Information

Artists for Art (AFA) is an organization of artists and supporters of the Arts. AFA's mission is to foster an appreciation of the visual arts, to present the visual arts to the Northeastern Pennsylvania region and to provide support to regional artists.

The AFA Gallery, located in the heart of Scranton, provides a venue for rotating monthly exhibits of art work by regional artists. The work of artists from outside this region are also exhibited to broaden the community's exposure to the arts. Other art related events such as poetry, readings, figure drawing sessions and performance art also take place at the Gallery. At times, collaborative ventures with other galleries or arts organizations occur.

Member Benefits
AFA members receive the organization's monthly newsletter, invitations to exhibit openings and information about events at the gallery. Members have the opportunity to exhibit their work in member shows at the gallery, as well as to submit work for consideration to be exhibited in one, two or three person shows. Corporate sponsors receive recognition in AFA publications.

AFA members also have the opportunity to become part of the local arts community through various activities such as workshops, social events or gallery openings. The benefits of these opportunities for connecting with other artists and supporters of the arts are immeasurable.

Funding
The funding for AFA comes from a variety of sources. Membership fees, proceeds from our annual art auction, and commissions from works sold in the gallery are all important sources of revenue. Additional funding comes through corporate sponsors and grant money from sources such as the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Above all, AFA is supported through the donation of goods and services from our members. All of AFA's activities, from structural organization to routine maintenance of the building, are done on a volunteer basis. The time, expertise and energy donated by AFA members are crucial to the survival of the organization.

Annual Dues
The annual Afa dues are $25.00. Considering all that Afa offers in the way of meetings, individual and group shows, contacts, and the opportunity for a personal web site, this is really a bargain. You may apply for an individual member page first then pay later within 30 days after receiving an invoice from the Afa Secretary. Since Afa has expenses related to membership and the site, failure to pay the annual dues fee will result in removal from the Newsletter mailing list and from the personal home page on the Afa Gallery web site.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many opportunities to volunteer time and skills for the success of AFA. Volunteer efforts range from gallery sitting, making food for an exhibit opening and helping paint the gallery before a new show is hung to serving as an officer or making phone calls during our membership drive.

Not only do these volunteer efforts serve AFA, and the mission of AFA, but they can also be fun and help to create a sense of community among artists and those who appreciate the Arts.
